The core differences focus on material characteristics, thermal efficiency, adaptive scenarios and cost, as follows:

1. Cast Iron Dryer Cylinder

Cast iron dryer cylinder is a traditional mainstream dryer cylinder, made of high-strength gray cast iron or ductile iron through precision casting and mechanical processing, which is a cost-effective choice for small and medium-sized paper mills and conventional production lines. Its core advantages are economical cost, solid structure and strong compression resistance, which can withstand high-temperature and high-pressure steam, suitable for medium and low-speed paper machines, mainly used for the production of medium and low-grade paper such as tissue paper and ordinary packaging paper. The inner wall of the cast iron dryer cylinder is anti-corrosion treated, which can effectively resist the corrosion of steam condensate. 

2. Stainless Steel Dryer Cylinder

Stainless steel dryer cylinder is a high-end and efficient dryer cylinder, made of 304 or 316L stainless steel through plate rolling, welding and precision processing. At present, it has gradually replaced some cast iron dryer cylinders and become the first choice for medium and high-speed, high-grade paper production lines. Its core advantages are corrosion resistance, high thermal efficiency and high surface smoothness. Stainless steel dryer cylinder is suitable for medium and high-speed paper machines, mainly used for the production of high-grade cultural paper, specialty paper, food packaging paper and other paper types with high requirements for drying quality.

Whether it is cast iron, stainless steel or energy-saving dryer cylinder, it is composed of five core components: cylinder body, end cover, shaft head, siphon and spoiler. All components work together to complete steam introduction, heat transfer and condensate discharge, with precise structure and strong sealing, ensuring stable and efficient drying process and adapting to the operation needs of modern papermaking equipment.

1.Cylinder Body: Core working component, made of cast iron/stainless steel, hollow cylindrical structure, surface precision ground and polished , uniform wall thickness, high temperature and pressure resistance, inner wall anti-corrosion and anti-scaling treated, optimized steam channel to improve thermal efficiency.
2.End Cover: Installed at both ends of the cylinder body, same material as the cylinder body, closely fitted with precision processing, equipped with seals to prevent steam leakage and condensate overflow, reserved shaft head installation hole to ensure equipment assembly.
3.Shaft Head: Central component of the end cover, high-strength material quenched and precision ground, connected to the transmission system to drive the dryer cylinder to rotate, with internal steam and condensate channels to ensure normal operation of the dryer cylinder.
4.Siphon: Core drainage component inside the cylinder body, stainless steel material corrosion-resistant, timely pump out condensate through the centrifugal force of dryer cylinder rotation, avoiding affecting thermal efficiency and cylinder corrosion.
5.Spoiler: Axially arranged on the inner wall of the cylinder body, stainless steel material, optimizing steam flow field, accelerating heat transfer, reducing condensate adhesion and scaling, and the spoiler of energy-saving dryer cylinder has better spoiler effect.

Working Principle

The core of the dryer cylinder's work is to realize the drying of wet paper web by using the principle of heat transfer. The specific process is as follows: saturated steam enters the hollow interior of the dryer cylinder through the steam channel of the shaft head, and the steam condenses on the inner wall of the cylinder body, releasing a lot of latent heat, making the surface temperature of the dryer cylinder body rise rapidly; when the paper machine is running, the wet paper web (moisture content about 40%-50%) after dewatering in the press section passes through the surface of the dryer cylinder, the paper web contacts with the high-temperature cylinder body, and the heat is transferred to the wet paper web through heat conduction and heat radiation, making the water in the paper web evaporate rapidly; the water vapor generated by evaporation is discharged by the ventilation system, and the condensate formed by steam condensation is collected by the siphon under the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the dryer cylinder and discharged through the condensate channel of the shaft head, realizing steam recycling; the whole process is carried out continuously to dry the wet paper web to the qualified moisture content (usually 5%-8%) and complete the drying process.
