High speed carbon steel steam rotary joint for paper making mills
Steam rotary joints are widely used in paper, packaging, chemical, rubber, plastics, textile, printing and dyeing, glass, starch, petroleum, pharmaceutical, washing, tobacco, drying, electricity, food and other industries.
Steam rotary joints adopt convex-surface seal technology, multi-spring seal structure and OPQ process techniques, and use imported graphite ring and O-shaped ring, with high reliability and high quality.
Application in different sections
Paper drying requires a large amount of energy and expensive equipment, so it is desirable to minimize the amount of water in the sheet entering the dryer section.
Every steam heated drying cylinder is equipped with at least one rotary joint and syphon. The rotary joint connects the piping to the rotating cylinder and allows steam into the cylinder and condensate out via a syphon inside the cylinder. The cylinder's capacity to transfer heat depends mainly on the design and operation of the syphon and dryer bars.
Rotary joints can be found on other sections of a paper machine as well. One area is on water-cooled rolls for press and size press positions. In this application, heat is generated by nip pressure and starch temperature influences the soft rubber cover which needs cooling.
The cover gets cooled by introducing water to the center of the roll to cool the metal shell and therefore the rubber cover.
Installation
Rotary Systems unions should always be installed using flexible connections. To avoid damage to the bearings, the union needs to find its center during operation. It is imperative that either the shaft or the housing is not hard-piped.
The housing of the union should be held in a vise and the flexible connection should be installed before installing the union to the machine.
Clean female threads and face of shaft prior to installation. Use Tef, pipe tape or pipe sealant on NPT threads. As a guideline, NPT threads should be hand tight plus 1- 3 turns to seal the threads. When installing parallel threads, appropriate gaskets or o-rings should be used.
There should be a slight, kink-free curve in the hose when installed on the equipment. It is essential the housing or shaft is allowed to float to compensate for any eccentricities and/or misalignment.
